History

Future Championship Wrestling is the brainchild of Marc Hogan and Kevin O' Neil. Kevin O' neil. had been running a professional wrestling school in the West Midlands for a couple of years. A few of his trainees were ready to start making their debuts, and he got them booked with some promotions around the country. But, he felt they needed more regular work than that. So he decided to start his own promotion.

Marc Hogan had just left a promotion based in Perry Barr, and needed a change. Thinking of setting up a training school in Coseley, he realised that he might as well try O' Neil's school out. Having been in rival promotions their entire career, they never really mixed in the same circles.

After training together a few times, they realised that they had everything in place to run their own promotion. The training, the wrestling ring, the contacts, the wrestlers and an enthusiasm to bring quality wrestling to the area at a price to suit everyone.

BRAWL Midlands acquired the services of a few established wrestlers on the UK scene. Names like GBH, Spud, Rob Hunter, Jack Storm and The Coalminers all wanted to be a part of the upcoming promotion.

So on January 26th 2003, BRAWL Midlands was born, an affiliate with the BRAWL wrestling promotion from Northampton. Running their first show at the Baggeridge Social Welfare Centre, a fantastic crowd turned up, that didn't let up all night. Hogan and O' Neil knew that they had made the right decision.

Baggeridge became their first regular "home" with a show being presented there on the last Sunday of every month.

The trainees all became competent wrestlers in their own rights—Dave Moralez, A-Star Athlete, Laken Xander and more, became regulars on the shows.

On March 30, 2003, BRAWL Midlands changed their name to Future Championship Wrestling (FCW). They felt they needed their own identity. "The Future is Here, The Future Is Now..."

Over the following months, FCW attracted a wider audience through lots of local media attention—The Dudley News, The Express and Star and The Evening Mail regularly featured items and photographs on FCW. Several stars of FCW have been featured on local radio station Kerrang FM and BBC Radio. FCW also got national exposure with mentions in (the now defunct) Total Wrestling magazine, Power Slam and The Daily Star also.

On August 5, Future Championship Wrestling got their own little home in cyberspace when FCW Online was created.

FCW celebrated it's first anniversary with "Back To The Future", still considered one of the strongest-drawing events at Baggeridge. In the main event, Sam Green defeated Keith Myatt.

From February to April, FCW held a tournament to crowd it's first ever FCW Heavyweight Champion. The finals climaxed on April 28 when Celt Kennedy defeated Laken Xander via pass-out.

Two months later, Celt retired due to personal reasons and a six-man match was held to crown a new champion. The match was heralded as the greatest match FCW had ever put on, and the ending saw Laken Xander's long time valet, Innocence, turn on him, allowing Rob Hunter to get the win and the title.

FCW has come a long way since its inception in January 2003, who knows what the future will bring?
