Between The Ropes 1
Welcome one and all to the first ever edition of Between The Ropes. Not one to shy away from his opinions, I am here to provide my coloured wisdom on the world of wrestling, specifically of FCW. Firstly, I might as well introduce myself. I am Mitchell Jones, the head of FCW web design, and long time wrestling fan. Adequete? Good. Now that thats out of the way, let's get cracking with the column.

Crowning FCW's First Ever Champion:

This Sunday, in Lower Gornal, we shall see the crowning of the first ever FCW champion. A lot of companies tend to crown their first champion right from the get go, simply crowning a new champion and letting him run with the ball. But in my honest opinion, I think waiting this long has been a stroke of genius, because it has given every one in FCW the chance to put their names on the map and develop their own identities and followings, before placing a prize at the top of the ladder for the roster to chase after.

Another misconception is that there are a lot of titles in the UK, so why would FCW's title mean anything? Well I will tell you. For the past year or so, no other company has received the appraisal (bar possibly the FWA) that FCW has. The UKFF always has kind words for the FCW product, and the wrestlers themselves (especially Spud, who for my money is one of the UK's biggest stars waiting to happen). FCW also is a completely different company to any other in the country. FCW prides itself on being hybrid style, and doesn't put emphasis on every international name who comes over, or create so many titles that no one even remembers which one means anything. I think in a good six months to a year, the FCW title will be regarded as the most meaningful title in Britain, bar none. And it's meaning will also be bestowed onto the champion. But who will be the first to raise the gold?

"Tomcat" Kevin O'Neil has seen it all. He's been in almost every UK promotion you could name, and has wrestled with almost every name in the country. He's the head trainer of the FCW training school, and has probably forgotten more moves in pro wrestling than any of us have ever seen. To take O'Neil likely would be a huge mistake. The guy is probably the most technically sound wrestler in FCW and quite possibly the UK. I think there's a good chance that his experience and ability may carry him to the gold easily. His only weakness may be his speed. Keep him on his feet, and run circles around him if you want an advantage over the Tomcat. DON'T try to wrestle him though, because he will tie you up in knots, and ship you off to America.

Celt Kennedy is Kevin O'Neil's long-time friend and 4Play stable mate. He may not be as technically proficient as his friend, but by God, Celt can fight you. A word of advice - don't take this man to the outside, because he will beat you into the ground viciously. He's not afraid to take risks, and can talk his way through almost any situation. Let us also not forget that he has been the first ever champion in every single company he has worked for. "The Celt" has an excellent chance of winning the belt, and carrying the flag. But if we're being honest, would you really want someone with his ego as champion? His ability isn't in question, but his mouth certainly could put a damper on the Manchester native being the flagbearer of FCW.

Morales, the big man from the Mexican quarter of the Black Country (where is that, anyway?), most certainly has as good a chance as anyone to win the FCW title, and he would make a damn good champion. For a big guy, he can move around like a cruiserweight, and for such a fun guy outside of the ring, he can brawl like a mad man. Just ask Rob Hunter how vicious Morales can be. Are we looking at Morales: New FCW champion? Quite possibly. He has all the credentials, and is one of the most underrated athletes in the UK. As long as he doesn't go in with his fun-loving attitude and more with a "I want to win this goddamn title" attitude, I can't see why Morales can't leave Lower Gornal with gold around his waist. I must also add that he almost won the FCW Holland title in November of last year. Of course, this will be a much stiffer challenge for a much more prestigeous title, but I beleive this youngster can pull it out of the bag with this one. VIVA MORALES!!!

And last but by no means least, Laken Xander. Going in, you would have to say that Laken is the underdog. The young stud is one of the most naturally gifted athletes in Britian right now and will be a HUGE star within a year, mark my words. He has a great look, a great moveset, and ability. But you have to question where his mind will be, considering he was Death Valley Driver'ed viciously off the second rope by Majik last month, and then had to witness his manager Innocence getting dropped on her head also. With Spud and Majik set for the show also, you have to wonder how Laken can possibly focus with his less than 100% partner going up against a mad man. It's a shame, because Laken would make a fantastic champion, and would probably carry FCW better than anyone I could possibly name. He's unique, talented, and all things in betwee. But can he keep his head in the game? I sure as hell hope so.

Whoever wins the title will have the weight of the world on his shoulders. But then, whoever is the champion isn't the champion for no reason, and whomever it is, whether Kevin O'Neil, Celt Kennedy, Morales, or Laken Xander, you can be guarenteed one HELL of a road to the gold, and the path thereafter.

FCW Needs You...

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in the FCW survey. Whilst not an original idea, FCW feels it's a necessary one. You, the fans, have become even more demanding as the years have progressed through wrestling and we are more than happy to cater to that. However, unlike other feds, we don't rely on just good words after shows or nice remarks on the forums. Oh no, we want more. We want to get to know you guys in a way that emphasises your influence on FCW.

And so, we encourage everyone to have your voice heard. We genuinely want to hear from you, because we actually give a crap about wrestling and the fans we perform for (unlike certain other companies I could name). Sorry, there are no Kit-Kats for every survey filled in (maybe next time, yeah?), but we hope that you will help us anyway, so that we can make our product even better.

Next Interviewee Will Be...

Another request from FCW, but this time, from me personally. FutureWrestling.co.uk's first interview with Celt Kennedy got some great feedback, so now it's time to crank up another one with another star. This time, I have secured the services of Jack Storm for a one-on-one sit down. This should be a great interview with one of the UK's most praised workers. But what would YOU like to ask Jack? Send in any requests to my e-mail address on the contact page, and I promise to use as many of the questions as possible.

And Finally...

Many of you are aware of this, but some may not be, so I will try to lay as much out on the table as possible on this. On the weekend of April 17th and 18th, FCW presents quite possibly it's biggest prospect yet. Collision Course Weekend will be the first of it's kind for FCW, and promises to be something special.

On Saturday, April 17th, FCW presents a show from Haden Hill in Halesowen, one of the most popular venues amongst FCW talent. You're always guarenteed a good show no matter when we go, but at Haden Hill, you're guarenteed something that much more special. To prove this, FCW has signed the services of "The Wonderkid" Jonny Storm. One of the, if not THE biggest name on the UK circuit right now, Jonny has wrestled for Ring of Honor, Combat Zone Wrestling and even Jeff Jarrett's NWA Total Nonstop Action in Nashville, Tennessee, and is well-known for his amazing technical displays against AJ Styles and Jodie Fleisch in the FWA. Last time we saw him in FCW was back in November for "Storm Warning" where he faced off against Rob Hunter and eventual winner Spud. This time, Storm is back, and we could only hazard a guess as to what the Wonderkid will get up to.

But that's not all. On Sunday, April 18th, just one day later, FCW will present another Training Seminar, this time attended by Jonny Storm. If this doesn't provide an incentive to come along, I don't know what will. You will learn so many different skills, it's unbelievable. Interest is at an all time high, so make sure to reserve your place ASAP, because if you miss out, you may never get another oppotunity like this again, and believe me, this is once in a lifetime.

Thank you for reading. See you at the shows.

Mitchell Jones
